Who We Are


Sam Sherry

Samuel M. Sherry is the founder of the Metropolitan Legal Center, P.A.

Mr. Sherry is admitted to practice in Maine and Connecticut. He has tried state and federal lawsuits and appeals, including cases before the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. Mr. Sherry has served as a staff research attorney for bankruptcy judges in Maine and in California. Mr. Sherry regularly gives seminars for attorneys and commercial business owners on commercial law topics including collection, foreclosures and landlord-tenant law. He taught advanced legal research at Casco Bay College and was the principal author of materials used by the Maine Bar Association for assistance statewide.

Sam takes pride in his recognition by his peers as reflected by his Martindale-Hubble rating denoting "high legal ability and the highest ethics." On the other hand, as he notes, "The compliment is moderated when one considers the source -- lawyers, talking about lawyers."

Mr. Sherry graduated from the California Western School of Law cum laude in 1992. He was a published member and staff editor of the California Western Law Review.  Mr. Sherry received his B.A. cum laude in Political Science from the University of Connecticut in 1986. He attended the New England Conservatory of Music from 1979 through 1981, and remains active as a professional musician.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Sherry was active in Connecticut politics. He served as a professional staff person on several Connecticut General Assembly campaigns in the mid-80's, and was on the staff of the General Assembly's Human Services Committee for the 1987 session.

Sam is married to the effervescent Kathy and is  the proud father of Dylan and Samika.  Community activities include service on the Board of Directors of the Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church and on the Advisory Board of the KeyBank Maine Jazz Festival.


Laura Scott Pearlman

Laura Pearlman is an associate attorney.

Ms. Pearlman received her bachelor's degree magna cum laude from Bowdoin College in 1979 in Philosophy and Romance Languages. She received her Juris Doctor from the Boston College School of Law in 1983 and was active as a member of the Massachusetts bar from 1983 through 1994.

Laura has been involved with Scottish dance for nearly thirty-five years as a performer, teacher and as a credentialed Adjudicator through the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing. Laura and her husband Edward Pearlman live with their children in South Portland and perform as The Highland Soles.

Ms. Pearlman has worked with the firm since 2007. In May, 2008 she was sworn in as a member of the Maine Bar and is associated with the firm working primarily in collections and foreclosures.
